Susan E. Walker

Name some artists that have influenced you: Two artists immediately come to mind because they believed in me and my work (and work ethic). Both were professors in the Universities where I studied art: as a 20-year-old, Wayne Theibaud at UC Davis (California), and as a 50-year-old, Patrick LoCicero at the UW.  So, building relationships with other artists has always been a giant influence for me.

Share an artistic accomplishment you are proud of: Part of the joy of being an artist is “the not” knowing…the anticipation, anxiety, eagerness, and vast problem-solving as to how the work will evolve.  There are no connecting dots to follow…the journey is made by doing.  I guess I have a sense of pride in creating a lifestyle that reflects this adventurous path.

Why do you teach art? Teaching comes naturally to me after spending 20 years in public schools and finding ways to support learning, for both children and adults.  I bring a patient, curious, and caring nature into the classroom and know how to structure a learning environment.  I have fun teaching!
