Visual Artist
Bio: Sonali is a self-taught artist who works across mediums, from dot mandalas to ink and watercolor. She also provides art workshops for children through adults.
On getting unstuck: “I have now changed my belief about creative block and I simply create without thinking much and the outcome helps me feel relaxed, happy, and come out of the stuck feeling.”
On mandalas: Mandala design is a geometric design or pattern that represents the cosmos or deities in various heavenly worlds.
On being a forever student: “I love trying different mediums and also different art forms. Just last week I learned the new art form of macrame and it was amazing.”
On teaching all ages: “Kids are more experimental and want to include their own style, which I like and I give them that freedom. With adults the focus is more on unwinding and relaxation and also learning, so they are more disciplined in approach.”
On calm: “Art in any form gives that calming effect but all-time favorites are: 1) neurographic art, 2) mandala and doodle art, and 3) ink and watercolor.”
On the creative process: “Art is a beautiful gift. Through the creative process I get connected to my inner soul.”
Favorite place near Issaquah: “I love downtown Issaquah - Timberlake Park for a daily stroll, Lake Sammamish, and the Issaquah Library.
