Storyteller
Bio: Divya is a storyteller, performance artist, healer, and educator born and raised in Bombay, India, and now happily settled in Issaquah by way of the Philippines and Baltimore. With her company Epiphany Sutra, she hosts transformative rituals for individuals and groups. On sutra: In Sanskrit literature, “sutra” means “thread.” Traditional ancient literary sutras attempted to weave knowledge, threadlike, around and into their few simple words or syllables.
On creative inheritance: “I got acquainted with rituals while still in my Amma’s womb, and I was led into the world of mythology and folklore by my Thatha (grandfather) when I was cooing in the cradle.”
On symbols: Ask Divya about how salt can accompany a rite of passage and how thresholds—those doorways that are both literal and metaphorical—can lead to healing.
On mental health: Divya is certified in Adult Mental Health First Aid, an evidence-based, early-intervention course administered by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing.
Favorite place near Issaquah: “There are so many of them: Poo Poo Point, Grand Ridge, Macky's Dim Sum, Issaquah Coffee Company, the Highlands, Front Street... I could keep going on.”
